@edele44 what is it you want to find out?
  2. @ Therad78:
Hi everyone iv aquired some birds can is there away i can check how many times previous owner /breeder has bred them ?
  3. @ Therad78:
Have cities paperwork is there away can reference the cities number and check the history?
  4. DizzyBlue @ DizzyBlue:
@Therad78 No as the paperwork only has the breeders details it doesn't get reregistered each time the bird is sold.
  5. DizzyBlue @ DizzyBlue:
So only the first person who hatched that particular bird is named. Each chick has to have its own document usually on there is the identification of its parents. If you breed them then your legring numbers refer only to you as the breeder and how many chicks you breed plus year unless you decide to have private rings with less information on it.
  6. DizzyBlue @ DizzyBlue:
Soooo if i owned birds had zero chicks then sold them owner number two had 12 chicks (ring numbers one to 12) he sold the parents the next persons legrings start at say 500 due to owning other pairs he breeds 3 chicks numbers 501, 502, 503 he sells them to you your numbers start at 1 as you have never bred birds before. GDPR will also come into play Cites/DEFRA will not give information as to how many times the parent legring numbers as a pair have been used on docs
  7. DizzyBlue @ DizzyBlue:
You might have birds that are not a bonded pair, or birds that won't breed due to being human imprinted hand reared, or if paperwork doesn't name their sex you could have same sex, or bred into the ground. You need to start from scratch with your pair get an avian vet get them disease tested if paperwork doesnt ay their sex get them tested, if they are really really tame .... Hold your breath and pray - rarely some do breed if they were parent reared but hand tamed afterwards.
  8. DizzyBlue @ DizzyBlue:
If its a question because your seeing no signs of nesting could be due to each time they get moved on they could go right off breeding due to changes like food, ability to move around etc so could stop breeding until they feel secure to do so they dont like disturbance. If we're talking greys then breeding starts usually around 6yo 3-5 eggs in a nesting can nest twice a year unless eggs removed incubated then birds get hammered producing eggs hen wont survive for long, they live to 40 or 50
  9. DizzyBlue @ DizzyBlue:
Stopping breeding in later years say 45ish if they make it that far, you loose a percentage of eggs due to breakage, infertility, dead in shell, damaged chicks that don't survive and are never registered. If they are newley paired up then the ring numbers run independently anyway on the defra database which they will not let you access to stop people using parent legrings as scam / ghost numbers. Birds and chicks are only as good as their breeder and the care and attention they put into them
  10. DizzyBlue @ DizzyBlue:
Only buy from a reputable honest breeder is the answer - there is no money in breeding you won't get rich it should just be about the pleasure of owning and by the time you have bred reared watched them flourish then deal with people who dont realise what they are getting into having a bird and see your precious chicks getting sold on and on and having miserable life.... You become an ex-breeder like me or a hobby breeder who vets the newbie owners to within an inch of their life!

I am looking for a sanctuary for my african grey. Freedom was rescued from a terrible situation and I have had him 8 years. He is flightless because he picks his flight feathers. When I got him, he was almost featherless from picking. He is afraid of humans and only trusts me to take almonds, no touching. He does not like a cage, for good reason. He has a tree and tree stand in his room but rarely leaves the perches. I would like him in a sanctuary with other greys.
  16. DizzyBlue @ DizzyBlue:
@hohbacgl hello and welcome to the forum am sorry to hear you have decided to take this decision your grey will actually miss you and isn't guaranteed to like being with other in a flock. We do have a fully qualified trainer on site who offers her services free of charge if you would like to build the bond. Are you UK based?
  17. @ hohbacgl:
I live in Michigan and am an older woman. I am concerned that he will have no home when I pass.
  18. DizzyBlue @ DizzyBlue:
Some of us on here are a tad "older" spirit willing body not so fast anymore! Are there no relatives, good friends with younger relatives? One to one can be highly important to an originally hand reared bird. The ideal thought we have of being with their own kind doesn't actually always work for a human imprinted one. Not too sure which members we have here that are USA based that could help you with advice on possibilities I will have a search around for you though.
  19. DizzyBlue @ DizzyBlue:
Oooo you could try Avian Avenue website they are a mainly based in the states. https://forums.avianavenue.com/index.php
